Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and popular way to remove unwanted hair. The laser targets the color in the hair follicle and through a series of treatments reduces and/or eliminates hair growth in these areas. The laser destroys the follicle during its active growth stage. Since not all hair follicles are in the active growth phase at the same time, a series of 3 to 5 treatments are usually required. Occasionally there will be a few hairs needed to be touched up at a later time. Typically the interval between treatments is about 4 weeks. The most common treatment areas for laser hair removal for women are underarms, face, bikini lines, and legs.

Laser Hair Removal is a simple process with a laser. Specific wavelengths of laser light are attracted to specific places, more specifically colors. With laser hair removal, the target is the hair follicle. The heat produced by the laser kills the follicle.

The result is permanent removal of the hair. The process frequently is done without any anesthesia, but some people prefer a topical anesthetic. The procedure feels much like pin pricks or snapping of a rubber band on your skin. This process removes hair at any place on the body where the machine can target.

Laser hair removal typically takes 5-6 treatments. Hair grows in various phases and is only sensitive to the laser during one specific period in that growth cycle. This is why multiple treatments are required. Some people with get a small percentage of re-growth of hair over time and a later touch up may be in order.

Laser energy is absorbed by the darker colors. For this reason very light colored hair is difficult to remove. Fine red and blond hair is particularly difficult to treat with lasers.
